Terms of Service - The New Sims Online

Terms of Service & Community Rules

These rules apply in the game, on the website and in our Discord. You must read them to the end and accept them before you can play.

By accepting these rules you are confirming that you are over the age of 18.

Last updated: October 3, 2026

1. General

No explicit content. No pornographic, nude, erotic, suggestive or overtly sexual content, including Sims screenshots.
No violence or cruelty. Do not post violent, cruel or graphically disturbing content.
Respect all members. Harassment, witch-hunting, sexism, racism and hate speech are prohibited.
No piracy. No serials, cracks, warez or piracy-related content.
No spam. No excessive posting, flooding or multi-channel spam, and no misuse of roles or mass mentions.
English in public areas, unless a space says otherwise.
Follow channel rules. Individual channels and spaces may have rules of their own.
18+ only. No minors are allowed on NewSO services. By accepting these rules you are verifying that you are over the age of 18.

2. One Player, One Account

No multi-accounting, Sim sharing, or pooling money, items or resources across accounts.
Running a second Sim on your OWN account is allowed for short transfers - about five minutes.
Breaking the multi-simming rule is handled in steps. The FIRST instance is a WARNING. The SECOND instance is a TWO DAY SUSPENSION.
Do not share your login. Anything done on your account is treated as done by you, including anything that gets it suspended. Never give your password to another player, and never ask for someone else's.
No ban evasion. If your account is suspended or banned, do not make a new one, borrow one, or play on someone else's to get around it. Evading a suspension restarts it and can turn it into a permanent ban.

3. Privacy, Safety and Conduct

Doxxing and privacy. Do not post anyone's real name, location, other usernames, or screenshots of private messages.
Harassment and cyberstalking. No repeated negative commentary or targeting of individuals. Do not track users or gather chat logs to pressure them.
Unauthorised data collection. No DiscordChatExporter, no scraping logs, no bypassing private invites.
Defamation and slander. No false claims of illegal activity, and no speculation about anyone's mental health, relationships or similar personal matters.
Invasion of anonymity. Do not link usernames across platforms or expose someone's habits and patterns.
No impersonation. Do not pretend to be a moderator, an administrator or a developer, and do not pose as another player. Staff will never ask you for your password.

4. Playing Fair

Do not exploit bugs. Report them privately to a moderator or a developer.
No real-money trading of items, accounts or Simoleons.
No scamming. Do not take payment, items or Simoleons for something you do not deliver, and do not keep something that was lent to you. Trades are between players and are not reversed by staff, so agree the terms before you hand anything over.
No griefing. Do not sell, delete, move or destroy another player's belongings, and do not abuse roommate or build rights on a lot that is not yours. If you are given access to someone's lot, you are a guest in it.
Job lot disruption is strictly moderated, including minimal work, trolling and deliberate interference.
Do not hold a place you are not using. Idling on a job or at an event to hold a slot while others wait is treated as disruption.
Using "DADDI" or "MOMI" in a Sim name results in a permanent ban.

5. Moderation, Support and Community Spaces

Moderation does not cover personal conflicts unless someone bypasses ignores or bans, or disrupts gameplay.
Reporting. Bring problems to a moderator, in Discord or through the in-game admin panel. Include what happened, when, and who was involved. Retaliating against someone for reporting you is itself a violation.
Suspensions and appeals. Moderators and administrators decide on warnings, suspensions and bans. If you think a decision was wrong, appeal it to staff - do not argue it in public channels and do not evade it while you wait.
Penalties. Hate speech in any chat is handled automatically. Your message is blocked before anyone sees it and you are disconnected on the spot. The FIRST and SECOND instance are a KICK, and the game tells you which strike you are on. The THIRD instance within 24 hours is a BAN on your connection. Staff are not exempt from this filter.
Everything else is handled by staff, in steps. A COURTESY NOTICE carries no penalty. A WARNING is recorded on your account. A SECOND recorded strike brings a FINAL WARNING or a SUSPENSION. A THIRD recorded strike may close your account permanently. Serious offences, including the ones this page says are a permanent ban, skip the steps. Every action is sent to you in a letter that says why and which strike it is.
No support is provided for third-party game clients or servers. Only NewSO is officially supported.
Voice chat. No echoing, abusive soundboards or harassment in voice spaces.
Advertising. No Discord server invites. You may promote your own NewSO lots, events and services once a day. Three violations may result in a ban.

6. Housekeeping

Do not share private game source code, or stolen Nintendo or EA assets.
Any text you submit that others can see, including lot names, signs and descriptions, may be stored or backed up.
If the server shuts down, account data is deleted, but signs and lots may remain public.
NewSO is a fan project. It is not monetised in any way, no copyrighted content is redistributed, and it is not affiliated with Maxis or EA. We do not retain personal data beyond what account setup needs.

You have reached the end of the rules. These Terms of Service are always available at thenewsimsonline.com/terms and at newso.thenewsimsonline.com/terms.html, and you will be asked to read and accept them in the game before you play.
